AMESBURY BOWLS CLUB NEWS SHEET

June 2019

Open Morning – Saturday 11th May

The club held its annual Open Morning for prospective members to come along and try bowls and see what we have to offer. We had a very pleasing turn out with 25 individuals having a go and others who have attended since. We have received very positive feedback and are now busy providing the follow up coaching sessions.

Thanks to those members who introduced new members and helped on the day.

You will notice from time to time individuals on the green who are not in bowling uniform (this includes Tuesday Club Night), this is part of the ‘Try the Game of Bowls’ funding programme, supported by the Bowls Development Alliance, which gives individuals the opportunity to try the game of bowls, attend coaching sessions and join in with organised activities whilst they decide whether the game and our club is for them.

Ladies County Fours Competition

Saturday 18th May saw the Last 8 of the County 4s competition played at Amesbury.

The weather was good and the spectators saw some excellent bowling.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and made a successful day which was appreciated by those who attended and raised money for club funds.

Winslow Trophy

This is a ladies annual county competition. 80 ladies in teams of 4s took part in a round robin format. As the host club we provided refreshments throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and made a successful day.

Bowling News

Congratulations to Norman Gould, Mick Crook, Chris Collins and Mick Tyler who have won through to the semi-final of the County 4s. Good Luck when they play a team from Royal Wootton Bassett BC on Sunday 16th June at Devizes BC.

Tuesday Club Night

In June and July, please book in by 6.15 for 6.30 start.

There are occasions when rinks are needed to be used on Tuesday evenings for National Competitions ( see Rule 7) and club night needs to be changed, unfortunately due to these games having to be played on a set date this is out of our control. As much notice as possible is given, but the need for rinks is only known on the completion of each round of the competitions.

Note: As published in the fixture card and advised at the AGM. On Tuesday 2nd July social bowls will run from 2pm – 4.30pm.

Club Fixtures

Changes to the fixtures will be published on the website and displayed in the Changing Rooms.

Note: Please remember to refer to the rink availability sheets (displayed on the storeroom door) as these are the live record of green usage.

Use of the Green

You are reminded when rolling up, please vary the position of the mat and where you are standing to protect the playing surface from excessive wear.

Club Competitions

The draw for club competitions will shortly be displayed on the noticeboards. Please remember it is the responsibility of both players to get the games played. If you find you are drawn against a new member and they are the challenger, please assist them with the process.
